This class is designed to teach students the basics of glassblowing. The final goal is making the four basic shapes: Spheres, Cones, Cylinders, and Bowls out of clear glass. In reality students learn so much more. Learning how to function while handling molten glass typically has a pretty steep learning curve. In addition to beginner glassblowing techniques, students will learn basic tool usage, studio etiquette, teamwork/communication, and safety protocol. Basically, students will learn how to not mess up the tools and also how not  to be a nuisance or hazard to others while glassblowing. At the conclusion of this class students may sign up for Levels 2, 3, and 4 in succession and become increasingly more of a Rockstar each time. (Descriptions below)

Currently taking reservations for 2024 Location TBA for Level 1

Level 2 focuses on additions to basic forms, such as plates, spouts, handles, feet, and optic molds.

Level 3 introduces a basic variety of color techniques.

Level 4 is guided design practice. Students use all the skills they have acquired to carry out their ideas in glass with careful guidance.

After Level 4 students may opt for private lessons or request Level 5 - Specific techniques.

Students can at anytime request to be evaluated and possibly approved for practice time with a blow-partner outside of class. However, students are not encouraged to go solo until at least Level 4.
